Rubi-Con 5 and DMCA Extension Bill

Just got back from Rubi-Con 5 in Michigan. It was a blast to have been there. We arrived on Thursday. There were a lot of interesting talks, and even more interesting people I talked to. Now, I feel inspired to work harder so I can be even better. Rubi-Con made Slashdot.

Since we're on the computer security topic, here's something disturbing. So, according to this post, we could be in trouble for using firewalls?!?! I think this is ridiculous, and not a feasible idea. Worse, this bill was passed already in Michigan, during a lame duck session.

Dark Cloud 2, SETI @ Home, and the Worst RPGs Ever Written

I've been having fun playing Dark Cloud 2 lately. Here's an interesting link to the "worst RPG ever written". Read it and laugh.

SETI@home is going to follow up on the years of data they have gathered. They are going to have access to the Arecibo Observatory for three days, from March 18-20. During these three days, they are going to revisit the top 100-200 signals that were detected. Read more about it here.

ECybermission Science Contest Judge

My first stint as a science project judge begins today. I'm an online judge for the ECybermission science contest. This is a science contest for 7th and 8th graders nationwide. I spent some time reading contestents' statements of problems being solved, and was impressed with the number of environmentally-related projects. Does this tell us something about the youth of today? Another quality I noted was the eagerness in solving problems. We grown-ups like to phrase our statements as "lessen the global warming effect". These kids say "solve global warming" or "eliminate global warming". This is refreshing, and precious, because such an optimistic outlook seems to be fleeting within a person's lifetime.
